Super League: Josh Charnley scores hat-trick to break all-time tries record as Leigh Leopards win at Bradford Bulls

Josh Charnley scored three tries and became Super League's all-time record try scorer as Leigh Leopards beat Bradford Bulls 38-12 on Sunday afternoon.

Charnley's 11th-minute score at Odsal Stadium set the tone for a comprehensive display by Adrian Lam's side and he made history either side of half-time to move on to 272 tries for his career, one more than previous record holder Ryan Hall.

Lam watched seventh-placed Leigh produced a fine overall six-try display to continue their impressive form and earn a sixth victory in seven league fixtures to move two points off third-placed Hull KR.

Only 11 minutes had been played when Charnley jotted down under the posts at the start of a record-breaking day in Bradford.

It remained tight for the rest of the first half, but Charnley went level with Ryan Hall in the 31st minute and Leigh boasted a 14-0 advantage at the break.

Waqa Blake got Bradford off the mark early into the second period before Innes Senior went over for Leigh and Charnley broke the record in the 55th minute.

Adam Cook burst away from a rival and spotted out wide his unmarked team-mate Charnley, who dived over in the corner to spark jubilant celebrations.

Caleb Aekins pulled one back for Bradford soon after, but Bailey Hodgson and Louis Brogan ensured Leigh had the final say to put the cherry on top of a memorable third consecutive league triumph for Lam's in-form side.
